TRINCHIERI VERMOUTH
THE RENAISSANCE OF A TURIN CLASSIC
Turin is the birthplace of vermouth, a drink whose origins date back to the late 18th century and which has helped to define the very identity of the Italian aperitif. In this setting, rich in history and culture, the name Trinchieri represents a fascinating chapter that had long been forgotten.
Trinchieri Vermouth was first produced between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when the city was at the height of its industrial and creative splendour. The factory, situated in Via Tesso, was a bustling place, filled with the intense aromas of medicinal herbs and spices, where vermouth and fortified wines were produced, some of which were destined for export. Alongside its production, the company also stood out for its extensive archive – which was absolutely innovative for those years – of promotional materials, including graphics, posters and advertising items, bearing witness to a modern vision with a keen focus on communication.
Like many historic businesses, Trinchieri too felt the impact of the post-war economic changes and, in the 1950s, ceased trading, leaving behind a legacy of recipes, inspiration and memories..
For decades, the brand lay dormant, almost frozen in time. Until a chance discovery brought this story back to light: a young, enterprising woman stumbled upon traces of the old factory and decided to breathe new life into that forgotten name.
Thus began a restoration project that is not only about production but also about culture. Through the study of the original recipes and collaboration with industry experts, Trinchieri Vermouth has been brought back to life, reinterpreting the Turin tradition with a contemporary twist. The carefully selected botanicals, the connection to the local area and the attention to detail result in a product that speaks of the past, yet with an eye to the present.
Trinchieri’s rebirth is not limited to the product itself: it is also a vision of a place, a space for gathering and storytelling. It is a project that envisages the reopening of historic spaces as venues for sharing – through tastings, events and storytelling – bringing vermouth back to the heart of urban conviviality.
At a time when there is growing interest in authentic, identity-defining products, initiatives such as Trinchieri’s demonstrate how it is possible to revive an important heritage and transform it into something contemporary, vibrant and meaningful.
Madama is proud to collaborate with brands and companies such as Trinchieri, which are able to combine tradition, modernity and a genuine drive to make a difference, breathing new life into stories that deserve to be told once again.
